THE YACHTS

Aztec Sailing operates two yachts, both well proven “classic” designs, very capable and well suited to their respective roles, and equipped and maintained to a high standard.

Sula of Strath

Sula is an Oyster 55 – a world class long distance cruising yacht. This design is renowned for its quality, comfort and sailing performance.

Sula is cutter rigged, 16.8m in length and has accommodation for up to 8 guests in 3 cabins. In addition she has two more berths in the skipper's cabin + additional berths for extra crew/guests if needed (maximum of 12 persons on board). The main saloon is very spacious - ideal for large groups and entertainment.

Sula is capable of sailing virtually anywhere in the world, and the comfort and space by no means compromise her sailing ability; the Oyster 55 is a performance sailing yacht.

This yacht has been specifically enhanced to meet the exacting stability and other requirements for “Category 0 coding”, which allows unrestricted world-wide ocean sailing. In addition to this she has been equipped for long duration at sea, with additional fuel and gas, power generating and water making capacity.

Sula is used for long distance passages and skippered charter.

Aztec

Aztec is a Nicholson 345 – a 10.5m Ron Holland design built by Camper Nicholson in 1979 as a performance Cruiser/Racer.

She is intended mainly for coastal/cross-channel sailing, but with excellent seaworthiness (in fact she has crossed the Atlantic twice).

Aztec has recently been re-painted and a new engine will be fitted in winter 05/06. The yacht is able to operate up to 60 miles from a safe haven, and is an ideal yacht on which to learn to crew and skipper: practical sea-going layout, very manoeuvrable, easily handled lines and sails, and can sail well in most conditions.

Aztec is based in Plymouth, and is used for training courses, weekend racing and charter. She is ideal for sailing holidays, and in the last two years has taken groups to Scotland, Ireland, Channel Islands, Isles of Scilly, Brittany and Spain.
