The Aim of Greenside Up is to help people to start growing vegetables in their own gardens & allotments, or to assist those looking for advice to plant more efficiently.
Services are available to cater for all budgets, which include: • Workshops Workshops IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND A WORKSHOP, PLEASE E-MAIL YOUR DETAILS: WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THERE'S ONE RUNNING NEAR YOU. A short workshop may be all that’s needed to grow your own vegetables more confidently. From chosing the best position for crops, through to looking after the soil, crop rotation & companion planting, everything a beginner needs to know is included. These sessions have proved invaluable for complete beginners, as well as individuals that have been growing for a few years but aren’t really sure whether they’re doing the right thing. We also arrange workshops for groups, such as community centres and family resource centres. Dee can now be found on the panel of Carlow VEC Adult Tutors and has recently been funded by Kilkenny VEC to help community gardeners set up a vegetable garden in Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny (see Community Garden section). What people have said about the workshops .....
"As a complete novice I got a good idea of what I need to do to start gardening - the pro's & cons!!" - Gabrielle Harding, Fenagh. "Engoyable & very informative" - Margaret Foley, Old Leighlin. "I found the workshops very informative and useful. I wish I'd done them prior to starting to dig! Loads of great tips" - Jamie Stanford, Old Leighlin. "Very informative - good cover of all basics, indepth detail where required, good lively discussion, excellent handouts to keep as referral material. All questions researched and answered" - Jeni Nolan, Carlow Experiment at Spring Workshop: planting in cardboard tubes versus modules
Comments from the Tullow Family Centre: "Would love to attend a further session" .........."Would love another course - great tutor" .......... "Very happy to recommend content & material" .........."Blog useful" .......... "Not having any previous experience in growing anything I now have a useful amount to start growing (and the problems). Thank you for the interesting & informative presentation" "This is a very good and easy to understand guide for both the beginner and for those needing a refresher course to get started" "I found the whole course very interesting and would recommend it to everyone to start growing organic veg and to say it was most enjoyable taking part" "It's my first year growing. Thanks to Greenside Up I'm aware of all the prep work and pest control so hopefully all will go well." Community Gardening If you're interested in setting up a Community Food Garden in your own town or village Dee may be able to help you. Apart from learning how to grow your own vegetables organically, a Community Garden can bring people together from all social backgrounds, and from complete beginners to more seasoned gardeners. Learning by doing is the best way to develop confidence in new skills and participants are encourage to practice what they've learnt in their own allotments, gardens or balconies.
